How to Prepare a Marinade For Steak
By readiqra
Marinades are great for giving steak a unique flavour as well as
providing a little tenderizing to help keep it nice and juicy. You can
create many different flavours with marinades. They do not have to be
complicated and sometimes the simplest ingredients combine to give the
most taste. The longer you marinate the steak the better as this allows
absorption of the spices. You can marinate for as long as two days! This
can really make a difference in the tenderness.
We don't always have time to marinate for days, so the minimum is about two hours. When marinating for this length of time just keep the steak on the counter rather than refrigerating it. If you keep the steak overnight in the fridge; be sure to bring it to room temperature before cooking. There are many different marinade recipes and here are a few simple ones that will give you great results.
Easy Steak Marinade
Italian salad dressing (vinaigrette)
One garlic clove, chopped
Small onion, chopped
Salt and Pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in a container large enough to hold your steaks.
Asian Style Marinade
Soy Sauce
Honey
One garlic clove, chopped
One piece of ginger, sliced
Small onion, chopped
Toasted sesame seeds
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and let it set in the fridge for an hour or so. Next cover your steak with it and let it marinate for a further two hours.
An even easier way is to use soy sauce as a base. Just add your favourite seasonings to the soy sauce! A variation is to use a mixture of soy sauce with a little oil and onions. Another idea is olive oil and garlic with salt and pepper.
If you really don't have the time to marinate even for two hours; try a rub. A mixture of oregano, black pepper and some Cajun seasoning rubbed into the steak will bring out a nice flavour. You might also try "basting" the steak in Italian dressing vinaigrette to keep it moist and juicy. This will work in a pinch to give your steak a unique flavour when your preparation time is limited.
Marinades are a great way to add wonderful flavours to your steak before you cook on the grill, barbeque or stove. There are endless combinations and many recipes for marinades. Try these ideas to give your steak a juicy taste that is sure to please your dinner guests.
